NBA -- Davis, Rose lead Team USA past Brazil, 95-78 By Kevin Gonzalez PhilBoxing.com Sun, 17 Aug 2014 ![]() CHICAGO -- Anthony Davis and Derrick Rose, who both hail from Chicago, starred in Team USA's 95-78 win over Brazil in Saturday night's exhibition game at the United Center. In his first game since suffering a season ending meniscus tear on his right knee last November 22, Rose received a warm standing ovation an appreciative crowd who often chanting "M-V-P!! M-V-P!!!" and roared each time he touched the ball. The 6-foot-3 Bulls guard did not disappoint the announced 21,309 fans and scored 7 points with 2 assists in 24 minutes of play. "I've been preparing for this for a long time. Probably if this was a couple of weeks ago I wouldn't have been emotional. But right now it feels great. We won the game so that's the only thing I could be happy about -- we won," Rose told ESPN. Although Rose, and the narrative of his comeback from injuries, was the game's ultimate highlight, fellow Chicagoan Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans stole the show with a specular 20-point effort. Davis made 9 of his 15 shots and pulled down 8 rebounds. "It felt great," Davis told ESPN of winning "in front of my home crowd." "I've been preparing for this for a long time. Probably if this was a couple of weeks ago I wouldn't have been emotional. But right now it feels great. We won the game so that's the only thing I could be happy about -- won," Rose told ESPN. In a USA Team loaded with NBA stars, there was plenty of firepower besides Davis and Rose. Houston Rockets guard James Harden finished with 18 points and went 11-for-11 form the free throw line. Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried chipped in 11 and 9 boards while Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors, who opened the fireworks with a 3, added 10 points. Tiago Splitter, who plays center for the reigning NBA champions San Antonio Spurs, led Brazil with 16 points. Leandro Barbosa and Rafael Hettsheimer recorded 13 apiece and Maybyner Hilaro had 11. After trailing 29-15 in the opening quarter, Brazil put together 48 points between the second and third quarter to come to within 68-63 entering the fourth quarter. But Team USA settled the issue with a 27-15 spurt in the final 10 minutes. (With additional reports from HDS) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Kevin Gonzalez. ![]() |
