FRANCISCO STOPS HERRERA IN 3 By Truth Esguerra PhilBoxing.com Sun, 03 Aug 2014 ![]() Aug. 2, 2014, Pleasanton, CA -- Top Filipino boxing contender Drian "Gintong Kamao" Francisco knocks out Colombian opponent Manuel de los Reyes Herrera with a brutal left hook bodyshot 48 seconds in the third round during their main event fight, which was held at the Exhibition Hall in Pleasanton. The 31 year-old Batangas native pushed the action and enacted his punching prowess early in the fight, forcing Herrera to retreat throughout its entirety. Francisco dominated the fight with an established jab, a counter right hand, and a powerful left hook, which left his bantamweight opponent cringing on his knees, failing to beat the ten count from the referee. "A body shot is a great stoppage. I'm very happy," trainer Justin Fortune said in regards to his Filipino fighter, who was inactive from boxing for nearly a year. "It was a good win. He did what he was suppose to do. He did what we practiced in the gym." Francisco said he went for the knockout victory because he wanted to give the fans some excitement. "The fans want an exciting fighter. So when the third round came, I caught him (Herrera) with a body shot," the Filipino pugilist said. Despite having the necessary boxing skills to dispatch his opponent, Francisco also credited his nutrition and conditioning as key factors to his recent success in the ring. "I felt great. I could have lasted twelve rounds," he said in regards to his improvements due to his revised nutritional plan. Since Francisco was barely scathed throughout the fight, Fortune said he wanted his fighter to get another bout as soon as possible. "I want another fight," Fortune said. "Drian will hopefully be back fighting in a month and a half." He mentioned he wanted another tune up fight for Francisco before chasing after another world championship title belt because he wanted to make sure all of Francisco's ring rust is completely nonexistent. Francisco said it did not matter to him which opponent he faces next. "I will fight any opponent at 118 lbs. or 122 lbs.," he said. " It is my time to bounce back. The fight is still within me. I can still be boxing five to six years from now." Francisco's record improves to 25 wins (20 KOs), 2 losses, and 1 draw. Herrera's record falls to 21 wins (15 KOs), 14 losses (10 KOs), and 1 draw.
