Kris George set to take on Fernando Ferreira Da Silva for regional honours

PhilBoxing.com

Smithy's Promotions is very proud to announce the first fight of our next instalment of big fights, "Smithy Brings the big fights 8". Toowoomba's fighting fisherman and current Queensland Welterweight Champion Kris "The Silencer" George, 6W(5KO) - 0L, is set to take on experienced Brazilian Fernando Ferreira Da Silva, 32W(24KO) - 4L - 1D, for the WBA junior welterweight Oceania title. This bout will occur on "Smithy Brings the big fights 8" on October 31 at Rumours International in Toowoomba.

Kris George, who is trained by Craig Monagle out of Trading blows gym, is coming off a spectacular knock out victory over the previously undefeated Ozan Craddock. However he faces a different beast when he vies for the WBA Oceania title and a top 15 world ranking in the WBA. Da Silva is the number 1 junior welterweight in Brazil and has a wealth of experience, especially when compared to Kris. He has fought for and won multiple regional titles including the WBA Fedalatin and WBO Latino belts and most recently lost a points decision to Jeff Horn for the WBO Oriental title.

Kris George's trainer Craig Monagle believes this is a great fight for Kris.

"We have sat down and watched videos of Da Silva and he is a very tough opponent," said Monagle.

"We have a lot of respect for him but in saying that I believe Kris can win this fight."

Kris will also be stepping down from the welterweight division where he previously campaigned to the junior welterweight division. This will be the beginning of what will hopefully be a successful campaign for the Toowoomba boxer and another one of the numerous challenges he faces in this bout. However George is hardly fazed.

"I can't wait for this great opportunity to step up in class and take the next step in my boxing career," said George.

"I can guarantee come fight night it won't matter who is in the other corner, I'll be ready to put on a show."

Promoter Brendon Smith says Kris George is taking a big risk against Da Silva.

"This is a very exciting opportunity for Kris," said Smith.

"There is a big risk for Kris in this fight but there is also a very big reward if he can overcome this challenge. This is another big fight for Toowoomba and I am looking forward to locking in many more for our next show."

"Smithy Brings the Big Fights 8" will take place on October 31 at Rumours International in Toowoomba. It will feature a full card stacked with local and international talent. Tickets will go on sale next Friday with the full card will be announced soon.
