Mauricio Sulaiman: WBC maintains priority of the defense of fighters By Gabriel F. Cordero PhilBoxing.com Sat, 28 Mar 2026 ![]() Mauricio Sulaiman. The emergence of Zuffa Boxing has shaken the world of boxing. The project, led by Dana White, backed by Saudi capital and the TKO structure, seeks to transform the sport with a centralized model similar to that of the UFC. The Mexican president of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán, remains concerned about the future of boxing and the recent announcements regarding the approval of changes to the Ali Act in the U.S. House of Representatives, which could jeopardize boxing and boxers. "Our concern stems from the intimidating and aggressive way in which Zuffa Boxing has entered the boxing world through its imposition and media strategy, seeking to connect with or transition the UFC model directly into boxing under its own methods and system," Sulaimán stated. Zuffa Boxing is welcomed in the world of boxing, but the WBC's priority is the boxer, and part of that is preserving and protecting their income and opportunities in professional boxing. “Zuffa is a commercial empire with immense political influence and connections, a billion-dollar company that has dismissed other traditional promoters, even calling them failures and outdated, and that's why it has immediately sought to control boxing,” said Sulaiman. Experts, along with promoters and boxers, affirm that Zuffa Boxing's objective is to centralize control of boxing through the UBO, where a single organization controls rankings, championships, and contracts, similar to the UFC. All indications are that the amendment to the Muhammad Ali Act, which is pending approval in the U.S. Senate, will allow for the centralized management of all boxing-related activities, seeking to reduce competition from other companies and establish its own boxing empire.
