KAMEDA DEFEATS MORALES
By Joe Koizumi PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Mar 2007
TOKYO, JAPAN -- Unbeaten ex-WBA light-fly champ, WBA#1/WBC#3 flyweight Koki Kameda (14-0, 10 KOs), 112, decked his first bout since renouncing his WBA 108-pound belt to move up to the 112-pound category, as he dropped WBC#12 Mexican Everardo Morales (28-12-3, 20 KOs), 112.5, in the fifth and pounded out a unanimous decision (97-92, 97-93 and 99-91) over ten heats on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan.
The 20-year-old Kameda failed to realize his prediction to finish his foe in three rounds, but proved more aggressive and faster for Morales, ten years his senior, piling up points steadily. The Japanese southpaw sent him to the canvas with a looping left in the closing seconds of the fifth, but the bell came to his rescue.
The Mexican, however, unleashed solid combinations from the seventh on to make it a good fight. Kameda was in command in the tenth, as he pinned Morales with a barrage of punches.
Undercard:
Unbeaten Japanese #2 welter Akibe Ushiwakamaru (13-0, 12 KOs), 147, needed just 30 seconds in sink Indonesian Marco Tuhumry (11-8-1, 4 KOs), 146.25, in a scheduled ten.
Promoter: Kyoei Promotions.
Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi.
