TAPALES RETAINS WBO ASIA-PACIFIC TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

Marlon ?The Nightmare? Tapales held on to his WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight title in front of his hometown fans with a unanimous decision victory over Fadhili Majiha of Tanzania. The fight was held Saturday at the Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

Majiha was down in round six. The judges? scores were Roel Densing ? 119-108, Tony Pesons and Salven Lagumbay both had it at 117-110. The referee was Atty. Danrex Tapdasan.

Tapales goes up to 26W-2L,9KO?s while Majiha drops to 15W-4L-4D,7KO?s.

It was a southpaw (Tapales) vs. orthodox (Majiha) affair which showed the usual strategy of the effective right lead for Majiha and left lead for Tapales. The crowd estimated to number 5000 were treated to an entertaining action packed fight.

In the first round, both fighters skipped on the common feeling out process and instead banged each other with bad intentions. However, it was evident that Tapales threw and landed the more effective and crispier punches. Majiha was a very tough customer using his excellent footwork and good defense.

In the second round, the crowd was stunned when Majiha landed a
cracking right straight on the jaw of Tapales. The fighter from
Maranding, Lala, Lanao del Norte was clearly hurt with rubbery legs under him. However, Tapales showed his intelligence, heart and durability in adjusting and recovering well to avert the attack of the visiting East African. Coach Juanito Ablaca instructed Tapales to stick his jaw on his chest to prevent getting badly hurt again

On the 6th, Tapales unleashed a devastating left hook which put Majiha on the seat of his pants. Referee Tapdasan counted and the African was up at the count of 8. Majiha survived the round but he was not the same fighter after that. He fought too cautiously and Tapales took advantage of the visitor's inactivity.

From round 7-12, the theme of the fight did not change. Majiha was too afraid to engage and opted to venture into survival mode. Meanwhile,Tapales showed his maturity, power and ring generalship to outbox and outsmart his foreign opponent.

This boxing event was attended by fans from Lanao del Norte and neighboring provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental
