GESTA WINS BY TKO IN COMEBACK FIGHT
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 12 Apr 2014

Mercito Gesta of Mandaue City stopped veteran Edgar Riovalle (37-18-2, 26 KOs) of Mexico City in the final round of their scheduled 8 round fight at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, California.
This was Gesta's first fight in 16 months after bring sidelined due to an injury he sustained while training and after undergoing a change of promoters.
The Filipino southpaw dropped his opponent in the 8th round in a heated exchange with Riovalle. Gesta pounded on the Mexican's body and head sending Riovalle down for the count.
Riovalle recovered but not for long. Gesta, now smelling blood, aggressively closed the show with a flurry of hard punches which forced the referee to halt the contest.
Gesta improved his record to 27 wins against a loss and a draw with the win which was also his first after suffering the first defeat of his career when he last fought on December 8, 2012 against Miguel Vazquez.
Meantime, Gesta's younger brother, Anecito Jr. (2-3), who fought in the same card, lost via Unanimous Decision against debuting Riccy Hood in a 4 round bout.
The fight was a close contest between the two as reflected in the final scores of 37-36, 38- 37 and 38-37.
Both Gesta brothers are now based in San Diego, California.
