NBA -- Warriors spank Wizards for 9th straight win
By Ryan Medida PhilBoxing.com Tue, 07 Jan 2014

SAN FRANCISCO -- Winning a bunch of games in early January usually isn't a big deal. After all, NBA championships are won in mid-June.
Just don't tell that to the Golden State Warriors who captured their ninth win a row after clobbering the Washington Wizards, 112-96, Sunday at the Verizon Center.
"It means something because it's history." head coach Mark Jackson told NBA.com. The Warriors haven't won these many games in a row since the franchise recorded 10 straight between December 6 to 23, 1975.
Klay Thompson made 9-of-14 shots for 26 points to preserve Golden State's streak. David Lee had another brilliant effort -- 21 points, 11 rebounds and six assists -- while Stephen Curry added 10 dimes to his quiet 14 points.
John Wall topped the Wizards with 14 points and 10 assists but the star point guard missed 7-of-11 field goals. Nene had 14 for Washington and Martell Webster contributed 11.
After a hot start, scoring 38 in the first quarter, the Wizards scored only 58 the rest of the way and finished just 37 of 86 from the field. The Wizards dropped to 14-17 in the standings.
The Warriors improved to 23-13, fourth place overall in the Western Conference. (RM)
