NBA -- Short-handed Spurs shock host Warriors
By Ryan Medida PhilBoxing.com Sat, 21 Dec 2013

SAN FRANCISCO -- Tiago Splitter's tip-in off a Boris Diaw miss in the final 2.1 seconds of play completed the San Antonio Spurs' 104-102 upset over the Golden State Warriors Thursday night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
The Spurs scored the hard-fought victory despite the absence of their Big 3 -- Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.
Marco Belinelli and Patty Mills came through in the absence of their team's stars. Belinelli scored 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting while Mills made eight of 17 field goals for 20 points. Kawhi Leonard led the Spurs with 21 and Diaw added nine points, six assists and three rebounds.
"It happens a lot in the league, when players are hurt and other players want to prove something. They want to show the coach they should be getting more minutes. The coach doesn't know what the hell he's doing, so to speak, so they come out and play hard," San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich told NBA.com.
David Lee had 32 points and 15 boards for Golden State and Stephen Curry exploded for 30 points and 15 assists, but the Warriors couldn't overcome 24 turnovers which the Spurs turned into 31 points.
Klay Thompson, the other half of the Warriors' Splash Brothers, missed 12 of 18 shots and finished with 13.
The Spurs improved to 21-5 while Golden State fell to 14-13, No.9 in the Western Conference and out of the playoffs picture. (RM)
