NBA Preseason -- Rose sparks Bulls' 91-85 victory over Detroit By Katrina Barnett PhilBoxing.com Fri, 18 Oct 2013 ![]() CHICAGO -- With much anticipation, the Chicago Bulls returned to the Madhouse on Madison for their first home game of the 2013-2014 preseason on Wednesday night. As if it were a regular season game, the crowd went wild when the Bulls starting lineup was announced -- marking the official return of point guard Derrick Rose after a 17-month absence to nurse a torn ACL on his left knee. Each playing 8:01 minutes during the first quarter, Joakim Noah, Derrick Rose, and Mike Dunleavy combined for 12 points, while Rose knocked down eight. Loul Deng and Carlos Boozer chipped in four points apiece as the Bulls seized a 24-16 bubble after 12 minutes of action. The Detroit Pistons came into the first quarter anticipating a close game. Kentavious Caldwell-P led the Pistons during the first quarter with six points off the bench, going into the second quarter down 16-24. The second quarter was much of the same for the Bulls, adding another 31 points, Rose scoring 10. With 1.3 seconds left on the clock in the second quarter Rose made an amazing shot as he fell to the ground. The crowd erupted in cheers and began chanting "MVP, MVP, MVP!" and the excitement for the regular season exploded even more. Greg Monroe led the Pistons with nine of his team's 34 first half points. . The third quarter continued in the same fashion, with the Bulls taking charge of the game with their biggest lead of 25 points. With a final score of 96-81, the Bulls came away with a win, and a better sense of confidence as the third game of the preseason came to a close. After all, Noah had returned to the court for the first time, and Derrick came away with a point per minute he was on the floor, each totaling 22. Derrick Rose made it clear in his comments after the game that he is feeling better about taking contact, stating: "I think I'm way more explosive now, like getting to the rim. I think I can take contact a little bit better. And as far as jumping-wise, I think I can jump even higher. They tested my vertical, I increased it by 5 inches. I just didn't show it yet because there's no need to." Taj Gibson echoed Rose when asked about his off-season gain of 20lbs in muscles, saying he is "just trying to be ready for the playoffs." That's right folks, its not even the end of the preseason, and the Chicago Bulls are already focused on the playoffs, and they have every right to be. Continuing to play like they did last night is all the Bulls will need to do to keep them in the race for the coveted championship. (KB) Joakim Noah fights through a phalanx of Detroit defenders.
