AMONSOT DEFENDS PABA TITLE OCT.17
By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Wed, 02 Oct 2013
Czar Amonsot (24-3-3, 14 KO's) of Bohol will see action this October 17 when he defends his Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) light welterweight title for the first time against Stevi Ongen Ferdinandus (15-5, 8KO's) of Indonesia at the Melbourne Pavilion.
The 28 year old Amonsot is now living in Australia and being trained by Todd Makelim, a former Australia flyweight and bantamweight champion. Amonsot won his regional title last September 12 with a third round knockout win over Australian Steven Wills. Last February, Amonsot stopped Addisu Tebebu in six rounds for the Australia light welterweight title. Amonsot is a former ALA Gym Boxer and has a 3 win-2 draw record since relocating down under three years ago.
His trainer Makelim fought future legend and reigning WBC world flyweight champion Manny Pacquiao in 1999 and lost by third round TKO in a non-title contest in North Cotabato.
The 33 year old Ferdinandus had a brief reigns as PABA champion in 2011 and 2012 and is also a former Indonesian light welterweight champion. His last fight was in August, a unanimous decision win over countryman Maxi Nahak in Jakarta.
Makelim also shared his thoughts to philboxing about another Filipino transplant in Australia, Jack Asis, who is under manager/trainer Brendon Smith.
? I trained Jack against Brett Smith the 61kg Aust champ, Josh King (63kg Aust champ),and Nestor Rocha from the USA which Brendon Smith was training till Jack KO?d him.? Makelim said, ? Then I take Jack to fight on his (Smith) promotion against the Thai Chaiyong Sithsaithong, after that fight he convinced Jack to sign contract with him because Jack was with Dido Bohol. I'm the one the got Jack back in the winning circle.?
Asis (29-19-4, 15KO?s) has won eight straight fights in Australia already after five straight losses.
