ALA-Cobra Tunay Na Lakas all set for Saturday night

PhilBoxing.com

The stage is set for ALA-Cobra Tunay Na Lakas Boxing as fighters took their weights during the official weigh-in at Robinsons Forum in Mandaluyong City Friday afternoon.

After three years of showcasing budding boxers in the regions of Visayas and Mindanao, ALA?s ring tour makes its first trip to Luzon and the National Capital Region to host a fight card, which takes place at the Mandaluyong Gymnasium tomorrow night.

The event is headlined by former PBF super featherweight champion Rene Bestudio, who is squaring off with fellow veteran Jonel ?Mulawin? Alibio.

Bestudio of XCON Tiger City Gym attempts to put his career back on track after suffering a tough majority decision loss to Mark Acub last June 22 in Cebu.

Prior to his loss, the 29-year-old pugilist from Southern Leyte was riding high on a three-fight winning streak, which includes a victory over Roselito Campana to capture the PBF title.

Meanwhile, Empire Boxing Gym?s Alibio is 0-6-2 in his last eight outings and has never won a match since his triumph over Naoki Matsuda on November 6, 2010 in Tokyo, Japan.

But ?Mulawin? remains to be a dangerous foe for Bestudio due to his vast experience in the ring. He once shared the ring with former world champions Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym and Akifumi Shimoda.

Bestudio stepped on the scale at 129 pounds in the weight-check, while Alibio checked in at 128 pounds.

In the night?s co-main event, Bestudio?s teammate Jimmy Aducal will lock horns with Argie Toquero of MP Gym.

Aducal, a heavy-hitter with five knockouts to his credit, is coming off a dramatic beating to former OPBF titleholder Roli Gasca via unanimous decision three months ago.

On the other hand, Toquero has won two in a row, and those victories have come by TKO in the second round.

Aducal exactly weighed 122 pounds for his eight-round scuffle at super bantamweight, while his opponent came in a pound lower.

The undercard will also highlight a battle of top flyweights as Jesame Dela Zerna (111 lbs.) takes on knockout artist Richard Claveras (110 lbs.).

Dela Zerna will be competing for the first time in an eight-round contest, while Claveras is looking to extend his undefeated stripe in his professional career.

However, there were a lot of close calls during the weigh-in as three boxers failed to make the contracted weight limits, with the most notable offender being Joel Lumangcag, who missed the 118-pound limit by four markers.

Other fighters who missed weights by much smaller margins were Philip Luis Cuerdo (108 lbs.) and Roderick Naduma (108 lbs).

The Games and Amusements Board did not issue any sanction to the aforementioned boxers.

Full weigh-in results:

Rene Bestodio (129 lbs) vs Jonel Alibio (128 lbs)
