ROSKIE CRISTOBAL SCORES 6TH KO WIN; 'THUNDERBOLT' OUTPOINTS MAKILING

PhilBoxing.com

Plaridel, Misamis Occidental - In front of a crowd whose size surprised even the locals, North Cotabato boxers stamped their class on their opponents with the young Roskie "Kapre" Cristobal scoring his 6th stoppage in as many professional fights.

Cristobal, 19 years old and 5' 10" tall, displayed vast improvement from his previous fights using his jabs and powerful straights to repeatedly hurt the older and more experienced journeyman Eric Mancera.

The fight, scheduled for four rounds in the lightweight division, was stopped after the third round after Games and Amusements Board (GAB) officials heeded the advice of referee Andres Manatad that it was dangerous for Mancera to receive more punishment from his younger opponent.

Cristobal's teammate, former WBO Oriental Miniflyweight champion Rommel "Little Assassin" Asenjo, scored a stunning first round knockout in his second comeback fight stopping outclassed Brobro Languido at 2:45 of the first with a wicked shot to the body.

In the main event, former world title challenger Lorenzo "Thunderbolt" Villanueva, 27, was brought to the full 10 rounds by the durable Alvin Makiling.

But it was a fight that brought the spectators to the edge of their seats as both fighters exchanged powerful blows whose thuds were heard all over the municipal gymnasium of Plaridel.

Thirteen amateur bouts featuring local boxers and two special bouts featuring the clash of the small titans and the battle of the gays completed the card which was witnessed by an estimated 5,000 people.

Plaridel Mayor Diego "Nonoy" Ty said it was the first professional boxing event to be held in the town in 40 years and the locals showed their eagerness to witness the event by lining up as early as 2 p.m.

Mayor Ty said the event will mark the start of a grassroots boxing program he will start in the municipality as part of his sports program.
