Sabillo might defend crown abroad By Jerome S. Galunan Jr. PhilBoxing.com Mon, 22 Jul 2013 BACOLOD CITY -- Reigning WBO minimumweight champion Merlito ?Tiger? Sabillo of Toboso town is reportedly having his next title defense abroad this October. This was disclosed by ALA gym manager Antonio ?Bidoy? Aldeguer in a thanksgiving dinner last Saturday, saying that there are ongoing talks regarding the upcoming fight. ?But, the right person to answer this query is my son, Michael, because he is the promoter while I?m on the boxing side ? the gym, the training and the preparation of the boxers,? Aldeguer said. ?It?s the promoter who decides and he has to consult with ABS-CBN,? he added. ABS-CBN is ALA Promotions? television network partner. As far as the recent show by Sabillo and newly-crowned WBO Asia-Pacific superflyweight champion ?King? Arthur Villanueva, ABS-CBN was very happy as the TV rating cameout very high. ?We did not expect it,? Aldeguer said. If you ask sportswriters from Manila who they expect will be the next world champion, they are looking at either Villanueva or WBO-OPBF super bantamweight champion Genesis ?Azukal? Servania. ?Villanueva might also get a world title shot depending on the negotiation while Servania is scheduled to fight a Japanese Konosuke Tomiyama this July 27 at Venetian Casino & Resort, Macau,? said Aldeguer. Earlier, Sabillo (23-0, 12 KO?s) stressed that he accept the challenge to fight anybody in his weight limit. His reaction cameout following rumors that IBF minimumweight champion Katsunari Takayama of Japan, who was at ringside during his recent fight, wanted to face him in unification. ?I can take anybody as long as it?s in this weight. Yet, all these things remain in the hands of my manager and promoter,? the 29-year-old Toboso-born Sabillo stressed. Sabillo, who grew up in Bacolod City, has successfully defended his belt against Jorle Estrada of Colombia over the weekend during the ?Pinoy Pride XXI? held at the elegant Solaire Resort and Casino in Paranaque City. During that fight, Sabillo sent Estrada to the canvas in the 9th Round after the champion landed a powerful left hook on the Colombian?s stomach.
