Bacolod pugs to fight in Cobra slugfest By Jerome S. Galunan Jr. PhilBoxing.com Tue, 16 Jul 2013 (Watchmen Daily Journal) -- In quest to discover new breed of Bacolod-based fighters to follow the footsteps of reigning WBO lightflyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes, defending minimum weight champion Merlito ?Tiger? Sabillo, newly crowned WBO Asia Pacific Superflyweight champion Arthur ?El Matador? Villanueva and WBO-OPBF superflywieght champion Genesis ?Azukal? Servania to name a few, the ?Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing? is back in the City of Smiles on July 21 at 6 p.m. at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports (BAYS) Center. This boxing event, presented by ALA Promotions in association with Cobra Energy Drink, will feature the future world champions from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental against the top fighters across the country. Seven Negrense fighters will be defending their homeground in the undercard match of the Jimmy Paypa-Christian Abila 10-round clash in the 125-lb. division. Paypa is the pride of Cebu City while Abila hails from Manila. Bacole?o Juren Labordo (9 wins, 5 KOs) of Brgy. Pahanocoy will be facing Ricky Sabia of Elorde Stable in the 8-round at the 114-pound limit while Roland Servania of Brgy. Pta. Taytay will be challenged by Jonas Sultan of Zamboanga del Norte in a 6-round battle in the 155-pound division. Meanwhile, Junjesie ?Tornado? Igbos of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental will try to keep his unblemished record against Lyndon Castillo of Butuan City in a 4-round fight at 126 lbs., while Romel Redondon of Bacolod City takes on Raul Yu of Butuan City in another 4-round match at 115 lbs. Brgy. Pahanocoy-native Alvin Sibugan and John Rey Melligen will fight separate rivals in the 4-round tussles. Sibugan takes on Steve Recaborda of Dumaguete City in the 110 lbs. limit while Millegen battles Jemart Amlani of Zamboanga del Norte at 126 pounds. Bacole?o Roniel Parcon, on the other hand, faces Vonjeryl Gino of Butuan City in a 4-round fight at 130 lbs.
