SABILLO READY FOR THE WORLD

PhilBoxing.com

MANILA (PNA) -- Filipino World Boxing Organization minimum-weight champion Merlito ?Tiger? Sabillo is now ready to conquer the world.

The 29-year-old showed he is not inclined to go back to the streets and fight to earn a living after knocking out a game but outclassed challenger Jorle Estrada of Colombia over nine rounds to keep the 105-pound diadem in the main dish of Pinoy Pride XXI Saturday night at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Paranaque City.

The Filipino southpaw actually chased Estrada for 26 minutes of their 12-round showdown and looked exasperated with his rival?s running tactics before unleashing a vicious left to the ribs that finally sent his Colombian title pretender to the seat of his pants, failing to regain his bearings until referee Raul Caiz Jr. reached the count of 10.

And it looks like Sabillo stands the prospect of a brighter future in his career as an elated Mike Aldeguer, head of the ALA stable of boxers, which promoted the big-time card, later told this writer their plan to send his promising prized find from Bacolod City overseas to further enhance his quest for fame and fortune.

?The plan is to really send him abroad, preferably the United States, Dubai or anywhere in the Middle East so he can really use his talent para sa kanyang future,? the son of the more illustrious boxing impresario, now 71-year-old Tony Aldeguer disclosed.

?Sana nga po magkatutoo para naman gumanda-ganda na ang buhay ng aming pamilya,? Sabillo, second in a brood of three, whose early dream to escape poverty made him take a practical engineering course before being lured to the streets of hometown Bacolod City where he learned the rudiment of sweet science to earn a few bucks.

Before being counted out, Estrada was grabbing his battered ribs while spitting his mouthpiece out in pain.

Sabillo showed the way from the opening bell on with the challenger trying in vain to parry the Filipinos attacks with his own counters which came far between. It was the Filipino?s first defense of the crown he won against Luis De La Rosa with an eighth round TKO last March in Colombia. He improved his unbeaten record to 23-0 spiked with 12 knockouts.

Sabillo?s stoppage win actually capped a night of knockouts for the Filipinos in the 21st edition of Pinoy Pride dubbed ?When Worlds Collide.?

Orient-Pacific super-flyweight titlist ?King? Arthur Villanueva, also from Bacolod, added the vacant WBO Asia Pacific title to his collection with a fourth round TKO triumph over Mexican knockout artist Arturo Badillo.

Two-time world championship contender AJ ?Bazooka? Banal hammered Mexico?s Abraham Gomez into submission in the second round TKO to serve notice that his roller-coaster fighting career isn?t over yet following a series of futile attempts to win a world title.
