GULF AIR RESPONDS TO TALK 'N TEXT BASKETBALL TEAM CHARGES PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 Jun 2013 In reference to the article published in the Philippines Basketball Association website on the 24th of June 2013. [Also see Philboxing story on 24th June 2013 - Ed] Gulf Air would like to clarify a number of statements in the article, which are incorrect and that we feel have misrepresented the airline. The incident was first flagged in 2011 and Gulf Air responded with a media statement to a Manila Standard Today article and local media concerning the issue. As we have mentioned, the ticket booking was cancelled by the travel agency the team contracted following the failure of the event organiser of the PBA Governor's Cup - Middle East Swing 2011 to make the payment. As we understand from the travel agent, that as a gesture of goodwill, the travel agency allowed the first leg of travel from Manila to Dubai via Bahrain; however due to non-payment by the event organiser, the booking was subsequently cancelled. We have discussed the incident with the travel agency involved ? Dana Travel - who can confirm the non-payment by the event organiser. We hope you will understand that at no point Gulf Air was at fault. However, passengers are important for Gulf Air which is why our airport staff in Dubai made every effort to assist the team and find the first available alternative flight options. Unfortunately, as most of the flights to Manila were full, the group leader opted to leave the Airport and informed our staff that they will take up the issue with their travel agent. Gulf Air has been flying to Manila for over 35 years now and we remain committed to further strengthening links with the country as our support to Filipino events demonstrates. Recently we became the official airline of ?The 1st Bahrain-Philippines Ambassador?s Friendship Games --Battle of the Champions?. Gulf Air also flew the Sta. Lucia Realtors team to Bahrain for a series of exhibition games. More recently, Gulf Air sponsored Qatar-based Filipino Bowling Club?s Season League matches.
