WBC TAGS CUELLO FAVORITE TO WIN WORLD TITLE FROM ZHONG

The World Boxing Council website has tagged Silver minimum weight champion and mandatory challenger Denver Cuello of the Philippines as favorite to win the world title from reigning champion Xiong Zhao Zhong of China at the World Trade Center in Dubai on Friday.
The WBC said Cuello, the hard-hitting southpaw who is managed and trained by former boxer Aljoe Jaro is ?dangerous? and that ?due to his great experience and power fists, Cuello is the favorite to win this fight.?
Cuello has a record of 33-4-6 with 21 knockouts while Zhong has a record of 20-4-1 with 11 knockouts.
In his last fight Cuello scored a ten round decision over Japan?s Takashi Kunishige while Zhong won the world title also by decision over Mexico?s Javier Martinez in November last year.
The WBC report said that after a distinguished amateur career Zhong made his pro debut in August 2006 in Kunming which was where he also won the world title. The WBC said his ?skills and power took him to triumph in winning the WBC Asia title and WBC light flyweight Silver title? before his night of glory" where. before a sold out crowd at the Kunming City Stadium he won the world crown.
The WBC noted ?It wasn?t an easy fight since Zhong was aware of the power of Martinez but in an exciting fight from start to finish the Chinese boxer who landed a greater number of power punches? grabbed the vacant title.
