GAB SAYS TWO BOXERS KO'D IN THAI MISMATCHES WERE UNLICENSED

PhilBoxing.com

The chief of the Games and Amusements Board boxing division Dr. Nasser Cruz said Tuesday that his investigation into the reported mismatches involving three Filipino boxers who were knocked out in Thailand last week revealed that two of the boxers were "not even registered with the GAB or licensed."

Dr. Cruz said the unlicensed boxers were identified in an internet report as Roger Monserto who suffered a fifth round TKO at the hands of Medgoen Singsurat, the same fighter who knocked out Manny Pacquiao several years ago and Roger Berloza who was demolished in four rounds by former WBC flyweight champion Chatchai Sasakul who lost his title to Pacquiao in 1998. The third fighter was promising Richie Mepranum who was knocked down twice before being knocked out in the sixth round by undefeated Thai Panomroonglek Kratingdaenggym in a WBC youth flyweight title fight.

Dr. Cruz disclosed they would write to the promoters and matchmaker to find out how this happened and continue their investigations into the cases of the unlicensed fighters and how they were able to sneak out of the country to fight without the necessary GAB documents.

The curse of terrible mismatches which take place primarily in Thailand and Japan reached a new low last Saturday at the IMP Hall in Osaka, Japan. Even as matchmaker, boxing manager, and media man Joe Koizumi was being praised for setting a record of 209 fights in which he acted as matchmaker in 2006, reference was made to ten bouts between Japanese and Thai fighters he arranged last December 30 in Osaka.

Nine of the ten bouts ended in either knockouts or TKO's in favor of the Japanese boxers while only one went the ten round distance although even this fight between Hidenobu Honda and Kumarthong Por Pluemkamol was lopsided.

In the Teiken Promotions card all five Thai fighters were knocked out, one in the 1st round, another in the 2nd, another in the 3rd and one in the fourth while the fifth fighter survived seven rounds before being knocked out. The fighter who lasted the longest was identified as Daoroek Soonkilanoinai who suffered his third straight defeat in Japan when he was matched against Nobuto Ikehara who had a record of 26-1 with 19 KO's.

In the Green Tsuda Promotions card also in Osaka, three Thais were knocked out, all in the second round, a third suffered a sixth round TKO and Kumarthong survived ten rounds underscoring, once again, the terrible mismatches foisted upon an unsuspecting public.
