Undefeated Stars John Thompson And Antoine Douglas Remain Perfect With Impressive Wins PhilBoxing.com Thu, 16 May 2013 This past weekend from Miami, Oklahoma, undefeated junior middleweight prospect John ?Apollo Kid? Thompson (12-0, 4 KO) and up-and-coming middleweight powerhouse Antoine Douglas (7-0, 5 KO) put on a show for boxing fans as they dominated inside the squared circle in route to maintaining their unblemished records. Managed by William Mielnicki and promoted by Vito Mielnicki?s GH3 and Greg Cohen Promotions, both fighters left their impact in Oklahoma, establishing themselves as two premier rising stars. As part of Showtime Boxing, it was Thompson?s TV debut, and he did more than simply explode onto the scene; he showed the boxing world that he is a force to be reckoned with in their respective divisions. About the win, handing opponent Giovany Rodriguez the first loss of his career, Thompson commented, ?It means I have just stepped up my rankings and I should start boxing some boxers who are more skilled. It is a step closer to my goals. I definitely have some things to work on since the competition is only going to better. The better the competition the better I am.? Thompson dictated the pace of the fight from the onset of the first round, utilizing his reach and power to keep Rodriguez at bay with his solid jab. Using his combo?s he dropped Rodriguez four times through the fight to win the unanimous decision in his first eight round contest. The win earned Thompson the WBC Latino Light Middleweight Belt, the first hardware of his young career. For 20-year-old Douglas it was his fifth win of 2013, third by way of KO. Douglas? coach Kay Karome was impressed with his boxer?s performance. ?Antoine looked good. He did what we worked on, and was able to come out victoriously. All of his work is coming together very well, and going forward we are going to take it fight by fight to monitor his progression.? ?I am happy with the win, I am able to set up my power punches through utilizing my combos, and I feel in addition to the power in my hands, my will is what keeps me fighting hard each time out.
