NBA -- Nasty Nate carries Bulls late

PhilBoxing.com

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls gutted out a 142-134 victory against the Brooklyn Nets in a triple over-time shoot-out at the United Center Saturday afternoon. Nate Robinson carried the load late and was a huge factor in putting the Bulls ahead in series 3-1 heading to Brooklyn for Game 5.

The Bulls were down by 14 with 3:16 to go, when CJ Watson had a wide open point-blank dunk that would have put the Nets up to a more comfortable 16 point cushion, but missed it. With under three minutes to go in regulation, Nate decided to take matters into his own hands and scored 10 straight points and assisted on the game tying basket on a beautiful dish to a driving Carlos Boozer.

Nate played fantastic off the bench for the Bulls with 34 points, scoring 23 of them in the 4th quarter, just 1 point shy of Michael Jordan's team record for most points in a quarter in Bulls playoff history.

Kirk Hinrich was also terrific playing 59 minutes and scoring 18 to go with 14 dimes, all while having the tough assignment guarding Deron Williams all game. Joakim Noah, while still nursing the plantar fasciitis in his right foot, played huge, making hustle plays all game and scoring the game tying put-back to force the 1st OT. He finished the game with 15 points and 13 rebounds and was effective in slowing down Brook Lopez.

Deron Williams led the way for Brooklyn, scoring 32 points to go with 10 assists. Joe Johnson also played big, scoring 22 and hitting the game tying floater to force the second OT, and hitting a big 3-point play late in the second to help force a third OT. After Nate, Noah and Taj Gibson all fouled out, the Bulls were able to pull away in the third OT in a game that was very deflating for the Nets.

The 142 points the Bulls scored were the most points ever in Bulls playoff history, and most in the NBA since 1992. The game lasted three hours and 57 minutes and was only the 7th time a game has gone to triple OT in playoff history. This game also marks the first time that the Nets have had a 3 game losing streak since PJ Carlesimo took over in December. The Bulls look to make it their first 4-game losing streak Monday in Brooklyn.

Games notes: Nate Robinson has made it clear that he does not care much for CJ Watson, and that became pretty apparent with 7:13 to play in the 2nd, Nate Robinson got tangled up with CJ Watson. They bumped into each other a few times, and Nate then proceeded to man-handle CJ into the scorers table. Both players were called for a technical on the play.
