TITLE FIGHT ON: Zayas and "Boots" Ennis Hit the Scales for Brooklyn Super-Welterweight Showdown By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sat, 27 Jun 2026 ![]() The biggest fight of the summer is official. Unified WBA and WBO World Super-Welterweight Champion Xander Zayas and undefeated phenom Jaron "Boots" Ennis both hit the scales cleanly on Friday afternoon, cementing their highly anticipated 154-pound clash tomorrow night at the Barclays Center. The blockbuster card, co-promoted by Top Rank and Matchroom Boxing, will air live exclusively on DAZN PPV. San Juan’s Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs), who made history in January as the first Puerto Rican to unify the junior middleweight division, looked in immaculate condition, weighing in at a strong 153.8 lbs. The 23-year-old champion faces the toughest test of his professional career against Philadelphia’s Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs). "Boots," a former unified 147-pound champion attempting to become a two-weight unified titleholder in just his second fight in the division, stepped onto the scale at a ready 153 lbs. While the weights came in without issue, a pre-weigh-in wrinkle emerged from the local commission: Zayas' camp formally requested that Ennis trim his substantial beard. The New York State Athletic Commission intervened and ruled that Ennis must shave down his facial hair before stepping into the square circle on Saturday night. The pay-per-view portion of the evening features an exceptional lineup of regional title fights, with all competitors making weight. In the co-feature, highly touted prospect Emiliano Vargas (138.6 lbs) takes on Bryce Mills (139 lbs) for a collection of regional super-lightweight hardware. Hard-hitting light-heavyweight Ben Whittaker tipped the scales at 174.4 lbs for his WBC Silver title defense against Richard Rivera (173.8 lbs), while New York native Jahi Tucker hit 159.8 lbs for a multi-title middleweight crossroads fight against Dominican Olympian Euri Cedeño (158.8 lbs).
