Unbeaten middleweights Geovanny Rodriguez and John Thompson to collide on ShoBox May 10th
PhilBoxing.com Fri, 26 Apr 2013
April 25, 2013 - Gary Shaw Productions undefeated Puerto Rican middleweight Geovanny Rodriguez (8-0, 5 KOs) will be competing May 10th in the co-feature of ShoBox: The New Generation against John Thompson (11-0, 4 KOs) in a scheduled 8 rounder at a max weight of 156 lbs.
Rodriguez is an undefeated southpaw looking to broaden his horizons on network television. He'll have his hands full with another undefeated fighter in Thompson. This is a great style matchup and with both fighters maintaining the desire to remain undefeated and look good on Showtime the implications suggest both men will come out strong, but something or someone will have to give.
"This is a good opportunity to be seen, probably for the first time for many potential fans out there. I'm very happy that my team got me this chance and I won't disappoint," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez has competed mostly in his native Puerto Rico, but he knows it is important to build a reputation within the international rankings and that is what he is looking to accomplish.
"I love competing in front of my fellow countrymen, but for me to reach my goals it is necessary to gain recognition beyond my comfort zone. I have pride in my Puerto Rican roots but boxing is fought on a world stage and now is the time for the curtain to rise on my career," Rodriguez said.
"Geovanny has a bright future and on May 10th he'll be able to showcase his talents to the boxing community with a golden opportunity on ShoBox." said Gary Shaw. "He's in with another undefeated fighter which shows me he's not afraid to take on tough challenges. That is a sign of a true warrior and the fans will be in for a great night of boxing."
