Michael Farenas toils at the Wild Card Gym before Texas bout

PhilBoxing.com

Michael ?The Hammer Fist? Farenas is back in the States after his gallant showing against unbeaten Featherweight champ, Yuriorkis Gamboa last December.

The 28 year old prot?g? of former boxing champ turned boxing manager Gerry Penalosa, will see action against Hardy Paredez of Chile on April 27th at the Erwin Center, Austin, Texas.

Farenas arrived with Penalosa last week in Los Angeles and immediately immersed himself at the famed Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach in Hollywood, training under Roach himself and his assistant, Filipino Marvin Somodio.

?Maganda and ensayo ko dito, tinutulungan ako ni Coach Freddie at ni Marvin.? (Training is going well here. I am being helped by Coach Freddie and Marvin.) Farenas told Philboxing.com.

Farenas has been training for two months in Manila prior to arriving here and has logged in more than a hundred rounds of sparring including two sparring sessions at the Wild Card since arriving in L.A. last week.

?Andami kong naka-sparring sa Manila, grabe ang training ko sa Manila.? (I had plenty of sparring in Manila. My training in Manila was tough.) said Farenas.

Farenas lost by UD against Gamboa at the MGM Grand Arena last December but impressed the audience with his brave showing against the Cuban star. The Filipino was dropped twice by Gamboa but returned a knockdown of his own in an entertaining fight which was the co-feature of the 4th fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas.

Farenas who suffered cuts in both his eyes in that fight expressed that the cuts are now healed and that he is ready to fight against Perez.

Penalosa told this writer that if Farenas is successful next week, he might be in line for a title shot in his next fight, making this a must-win for his pupil.

?Sana maganda yung maipakita ko dito para next time sana world championship naman.? (I hope I do well in this fight so I can hopefully fight for a world championship next.) expressed Farenas.

?Pagbubutihin ko ito para baka suwertihin tayo na mapalaban tayo sa world championship, Sana.? (I will do my best in this fight and maybe I will be lucky to get a chance to fight for the world championship, hopefully.)
