AIBA DEMANDS EXORBITANT FEES AND PERKS FOR 2015 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

PhilBoxing.com

The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) which has decided to drop the word amateur and break down the barriers between amateur and professional boxers on a selective basis that has come under criticism from such prominent organizations as the World Boxing Council is asking for exorbitant fees and perks from the potential hosts of the 2015 World Championships.

The deadline for candidates who wish to host the event which could be either a local federation or a city will expire on May 15.

AIBA said the 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships is a qualifying competition for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and all gold medallists of this competition will be directly qualified to participate in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016.

Aside from a fee of 1.2 million Euros or the amount of some US$1.56 million, the AIBA which is headed by Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu of Chinese-Taipei has demanded five star hotels for the president and so-called VIPs, 3 star hotels for the boxers.

It will be recalled that the Philippine Amateur Boxing Association declined to participate in the World Series of Boxing organized by AIBA because of a US$300,000 fee.

In its website the WBC carried a story that mentioned ?Some interesting items to be examined on the bids. ?

The Aiba made it clear as the accommodation will have to be (expenses paid by the organizing committee) :
? 5-star hotels for the President of AIBA and VIPs.
? A 4 or 5-star accomodation for the Aiba staff, the supervisor, judges and referees.
? A 3 or 4-star hotels for boxers and team delegates.
? A 3 or 4-star hotels for the press.

The Aiba points out how the room rates range must be a minimum of $ 50 (for boxers) and a maximum of 200 and more (for AIBA members).

On the sharing of any revenues the AIBA stated that ?all international TV rights and sponsorship incomes? will go to AIBA.

The the Organizing Committee will retain income at the box office and the rights of local TV stations and but not least ?. The AIBA Sanction Fee to be paid to Aiba will be more than 1.2 million euros or over US$1.56 million.
