NBA -- Nets barely escape Detroit, 93-90 By Reynaldo Seno PhilBoxing.com Fri, 08 Feb 2013 ![]() NEW YORK -- Converting only 34 of 82 shots (41.5 percent) and going just 6-for-16 from 3-point range (37.5 percent) is never a reliable template for victory in a basketball game. Not in any clipboard, or playbook. But after plodding through 48 minutes of shoddy shooting, the Brooklyn Nets somehow found triumph Wednesday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Michigan. Thanks toBrook Lopez, who rescued the Eastern Conference powerhouse from what would have been a devastating letdown. The 7-foot, 265-pound center scored on a nifty layup in the final 17.8 seconds of play, giving the Nets a slim three point advantage before holding on to a 93-90 decision. After a close opening quarter, where they only fell behind by one, 24-23, the Nets trailed by as many as 13 in the2:38 mark of the second quarter when Will Bynum's twinner pushed the score to 46-33. The Nets fought through their shooting woes after the halftime break and dropped 29 points in the third quarter to set the stage for an up-and-down final 12 minutes. "There were things we did well. The fact that we hung in, the fact that we didn't turn the ball over and the fact that we executed down the stretch. I mean, to find a way to win on the road is a good thing. You know, we're not there yet, but good teams find a way to win, " Nets head coach P.J. Carlesimo told the New York Times. Lopez finished with 17 points and nine rebounds while Joe Johnson had 16 points. Gerald Wallace also had 14 for the Nets, who improved to 29-20 and three games behind the 31-16 New York Knicks for Atlantic Division supremacy. Greg Monroe led the Pistons with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Bynum ended up with 13. Former Duke standout Kyle Singler finished with 12 markers as the Pistons dropped further out of a playoffs berth with an 18-32 slate. (RYS) Besides scoring 17 points and grabbing nine rebounds, Nets center Brook Lopez (right) anchored the defense as Brooklyn beat the Detroit Pistons, 93-90, at The Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
