NIETES BATTLES AMOL TOMORROW!

PhilBoxing.com

Top-ranked Filipino Donnie Nietes of the ALA Stable shoots for the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title tomorrow when he takes on Indonesian Heri Amol in a 12-round battle at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Nietes versus Amol headlines a 70-round card promoted by SGG Sports Promotion in cooperation with the Golden Boy Promotions.

The highly regarded Indon who parades a 14-3-2 win-loss-draw fight record arrived last Thursday from Jakarta, Indonesia accompanied by his trainer.

Nietes and Amol met for the first time yesterday at the official weigh-in and press conference at the Marco Polo Hotel.

The 22-year-old veteran of 19 fights, Amol has not fought a Filipino in a career spanning five years. Nietes will be the first time that he will trade blows with a Pinoy warrior although he has fourth a Thai twice splitting the verdict.

Amol fights in the mold of compatriot, Angky Angkota and Simson Butar-Butar, a syle that is rugged and combative.

"Filipino boxing aficionados have seen the best of the Indonesian fighters with the likes of Butar-Butar, Ali Rochmad and Angky Angkota and Heri Amol shares the same credentials. Nietes will surely be in a tough fight," assured promoter Sammy Gello-ani before leaving for the United States to be at the corner of Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista on December 2, 2006 when the latter fights in Tampa, Florida.

A strong supporting cast awaits boxing fans before the main showdown headed by two of the products of the world-famous ALA gym, Milan Melindo and Along Denoy. These young pugilists are set to face their counterparts, Rommel Bongon and Aljun Salogaol respectively.
This exciting 70-round boxing card will open with 6 other fights ? Leon Maratas vs Lotlot Gaviola, Jessie Albaracin vs Edmund Velayo, Nic Banal vs Brix ?Bomb? Ray, Weng Haya vs Alfredo Balabat and a special attraction bout featuring undefeated prospect Joseph Omanz against Rey Las Pi?as.

Covered for television by SOLAR SPORTS in partnership with Tanduay, the No. 1 Rhum, this boxing extravaganza is also sponsored by Sugbahan Food Corner, Mango Park Hotel, and the newly refurbished and elegant Marco Polo Hotel (formerly Cebu Plaza).
