EXPECT A MORE AGGRESSIVE PACQUIAO

PhilBoxing.com

MANILA (PNA) - If aggressiveness is the key to luring Juan Manuel Marquez to come and fight, so be it.
Manny Pacquiao, exploiting the stamina, speed and power acquired in a three-week camp held in hometown General Santos prior to moving to Los Angeles, did just that in a six-round skirmish with a pair of sparring partners Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila) in Day 2 of his LA camp at the Wild Card Gym.

Mexican Raymund Beltran and Russian Ruslan Provodnikov engaged the eight-division world champion Filipino in a no-sense toe-to-toe encounter of three-round each in what signaled what to happen in the next five weeks of final preparations for his fourth showdown with Marquez December 8 in Las Vegas.

?I worked on toughening up my physical condition while in the Philippines so I can endure the rigor of a heavy training that awaits me here in our efforts to end any doubts in the results of our last three fights,? Pacquiao said after the gruelling session that also included punching the heavy bag and he speed ball.

The Filipino ring hero, who besides proving that his two wins and one draw record against the Mexican were no fluke will also be trying to vault back from a controversial split decision loss Timothy Bradley last June, along with trainer Freddie Roach, have vowed to emerge victorious this time via stoppage.

?As I have been saying, kelangan mapatulog para matigil na ang duda na siyam na taon nang nakabitin sa ulo ko,? Pacquiao reiterated in an interview by phone from LA. ?At mangyayari lamang ito kung mapipilit natin siyang (Marquez) na lumaban.

?Never mind his counterpunching tactics, which he proved very effective in our previous fights. Mapapag-aralan na natin yun,? he said. ?Ang mahirap kasi how can we lure him into coming out and slug it out.?

?The answer, to my mind, is to be aggressive right at the opening bell. Not give him room to do what he best does, which is run ? run ? and run then counterpunch,? the Pacman suggested. ?That, among others, will be what this camp is all about.?

Roach agreed saying, ?the plan is to work on looking for ways to turn the fight into a slugfest so Manny can go ahead with one of his big advantages ? kill him with his power.? ?

?I have been telling him flat-out, Manny you?re not going to win a decision, Roach said in one of PJ?s earlier interviews. ?He knows he need a knockout and we agreed on that.?

Like in the opening day of the camp Monday, Roach expressed satisfaction over Pacquiao?s performance in sparring, commenting. ?Not a bad day to start sparring.?

The last time Pacquiao won via KO was in 2009 when he stopped Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto in 12 rounds. He fought five more bouts after that but only Antonio Margarito dared to face him squarely in a full 12-round brutal encounter that saw the latter?s eye dropped out of its socket.

From there on, everyone he faced ? Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley, Marquez himself and Bradley ? refused to come forward and exchange punches with him although the latter managed to escape an unearned split decision verdict.

Pacquiao wants to emerge victor by a knockout against an opponent who knows him more than anyone else having met him for a total 36 rounds and despite going down four times, three in the first bout of their trilogy.
