PINOY PRIDE 17 AFTERMATH: RUIZ WANTS IMMEDIATE REMATCH WITH BAUTISTA By Mike Angel Lopez PhilBoxing.com Mon, 22 Oct 2012 Pasay City Philippines -- In a fight that brought the best out of two warriors, the nonstop action packed fight where both fighters went toe to toe with each other, taking the best shots from each other and ending in a split decision in favor of the Filipino warrior. This will be talked about for a long time, Daniel ?Canerito? Ruiz (27-6-2-19KO?s) and Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista (34-2, 25 KO's) at the Mall of Asia Arena on Oct. 20, 2012. This explosive fight was for the WBO International Featherweight Championship. There was pandemonium in the crowd with cheers for Bautista and cheers for Ruiz going back and forth. The third round was explosive for Ruiz and had Bautista almost kissing the canvas, but Bautista weathered the storm and finished the round. Bautista was slightly more aggressive in the fight, but Ruiz landed some huge shots to test the chin of Bautista where the Candijay bomber showed he can withstand some big shots. Ruiz came into the official weigh in at 3 pounds over the limit of 129 lbs, primarily due to the inconsistency of the scale at the hotel, he was not on the mark. Two days before the fight, Ruiz did use the official scale at the GAB Games and Amusement Bureau office and was three pounds over the limit, which is normal. Ruiz would do his daily early morning run and later in the day his light workout in the gym. The kid was not lazy, he came to fight. This writer was with him on all this time. The scores were a sign that the judges had a hard time determining the winner. Judge Epie Almeda scored 115-113 for Ruiz while judges Salven Lagumbay scored 116-112 and Samson Libres scored it 115-113 respectively for Bautista. The referee was Atty. Danrex Tapdasan. Ruiz stated before he left to Mexico, "I WANT A REMATCH! I DESERVE IT AND ALSO THE FANS. I WAS OFF MY WEIGHT DUE TO THE INCONSISTENCY OF THE SCALE AT THE HOTEL. I FOUGHT LIKE A WARRIOR EVEN WEARING 10 OZ. GLOVES. I WAS NEVER HURT IN THIS FIGHT. THE FANS SAW WHAT I DID TO BAUTISTA. I WANT A REMATCH Ruiz added, ?I hope ALA Promotions will bring me back for a rematch. I want to thank ALA Promotions for giving me this fight. Their staff were very friendly and did a great job. I have fought in Canada and Australia and I have to admit, the Philippines was the best place I ever fought. The people were very friendly.?
