REFEREE WEEKS BELIEVES PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER WILL HAPPEN
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 19 Oct 2012

Internationally respected American referee Tony Weeks believes a bout between ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao and undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr will happen.
Weeks who is in Manila to act as referee in the battle for the vacant WBO bantamweight title between southpaw AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and Thailand?s Pungluang Sor Singyu at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday told the Manila Standard ?I?m sure things will work itself out and the fight will happen. It's just a matter of waiting and seeing and let the people come together and get it done.?
The referee said ?Of course I want to see Pacquiao-Mayweather which is the fight everybody wants to see. It's like Ali-Frazier, Leonard-Hearns. You want to see those marquee match-ups where both fighters come in kind of even and you want to see who wins.?
He said a Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown would be ?good for boxing, good for the sport.?
Looking ahead at the fourth fight between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand on December 8, Weeks said ?regardless of what I think because I?m still a referee and am still an official so I can?t really comment on it in that matter.?
But he said ?all three fights were great. It?s a good match-up for Pacquiao and Marquez. Its one of those fights where you are just going to get that even-type action with both fighters going at it because they are world champions.?
Weeks who is making his first visit to the country told us ?I?ve heard a lot about the Philippines. It?s a very, very beautiful country and what I have seen so far, the people are so nice and very friendly and warm.?
He is coming off his last assignment which was to referee the WBC world middleweight title fight between Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
