AMIR KHAN EYES MAYWEATHER AFTER GARCIA

PhilBoxing.com

WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan plans to beat Danny Garcia and takes his WBC title and then move up to welterweight and take on undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Khan told BBC Sport he wants to prove he is the best in his class by beating and then plans to move up to welterweight to face Floyd Mayweather.

The 25 year old Athens 2000 Olympic solver medalist battles Garcia in a unification bout at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Sunday, Manila Time, in a fight that will be telecast on ?Big Time Bakbakan? over AKTV IBC 13 beginning at 12:00 noon.

Khan was reinstated as WBA champion after Lamont Peterson was found guilty of taking a banned substance and was stripped of the title.

Khan tolf BBC Sport, "This is my chance to prove that I'm the best in the division. I can win the WBC title and will have held three of the four belts, so it's time to move up to 147 lbs."

Khan and the 24 year old Garcia who is an American of Puerto Rican heritage both weighed one pound under the light welterweight limit, tipping the scales at 139 pounds at the official weigh-in on the eve of the fight.

They will also be vying for the Ring Magazine title which is awarded to the winner in a clash between the two top fighters in the division.

Khan lost his WBA and IBF titles to Peterson in a controversial defeat last December in Petrson?s hometown of Washington D.C but the American was stripped of the WBA title when he subsequently failed a drug test. The IBF hasn?t yet decided on what action to take against Peterson.

Garcia won the WBC title from ageing Mexican legend against Erik ?El Terrible? Morales in his last fight and has said he is confident of overpowering Khan.

Garcia said "He gets hurt in nearly every fight. Then he runs after he gets hurt. That's not defense. When he gets hurt on Saturday night, that's what he'll do again. He can run but he can't hide."

Khan?s former strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza who was recently replaced told the Manila Standard that Khan ?is very, very good and dangerous in the very beginning of the fight from rounds 1 to 5. After five rounds he loses it. The game plan goes out of the window, he can no longer throw combinations together. If Danny Garcia can survive the first five rounds he can make it a fight.?
