KHAN PUTTING EVERYTHING INTO HIS TITLE FIGHT AGAINST GARCIA By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 08 Jul 2012  Former world junior welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO's) is putting everything into his title fight against undefeated WBC champion Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KO's) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Sunday July 15, Manila Time. Khan was originally scheduled to fight Lamont Peterson in a rematch last May 19 but Peterson tested positive for a banned substance in April and the fight had to be called off. Garcia who won the title from the ageing Mexican legend Erik "El Terrible" Morales stepped up to put his title on the line against the 2004 Athens Olympic Games silver medalist. Boxing writer Steve Carp reported that Khan didn't mind waiting a couple of months to fight but clearly didn't want to wait too much longer to return to the ring in a fight that will be telecast in the Philippines by AKTV IBC 13 at 12:00 noon on its popular weekly boxing show "Big Time Bakbakan." A devout Muslim, Carp reported that the timing is just right for Khan since the British fighter of Pakistani heritage didn't want to train during Ramadan, the month-long holiday that requires fasting from sunrise to sunset. This year, Ramadan is scheduled to begin July 20. Carp quoted Khan who said "When I had the chance to fight (July 14), I jumped on it. With Ramadan coming up I didn't want to have to train (during Ramadan). So this comes up perfect for me." Khan earlier disclosed that he took a few weeks off from training at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym when the Peterson fight was canceled and returned to his hometown in Bolton, England but soon returned to the gym beginning with a stint at Manny Pacquiao's training site in the Philippine summer capital before stepping up his preparation at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. Khan said he thinks "the extra time will help me prepare better. It has given me a chance to work on some new things." Khan noted that this training camp has lasted 16 weeks pointing out that "Normally, we go eight to 10 weeks. But I feel fresh. I'm putting everything into this fight."
