BAUTISTA RETURNS ON DECEMBER 2
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 12 Oct 2006
Emerging sensation Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista returns to the ring on December 2 when he battles Brazil’s World Boxing Commission super bantamweight champion Giovanni "Sugar" Andrade in a ten round bout at St. Peter Times Forum in Tampa Bay, Florida.
Respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer whose son Michael has taken over as manager of many of the fighters from the famed ALA Gym, said Golden Boy Promotions vice president and international matchmaker Eric Gomez had informed them of Andrade’s readiness to go through with the much-awaited showdown with Bautista.
Their scheduled September 16 battle had to be postponed because of a freak injury to Bautista who suffered a hairline fracture of the collarbone while shadow boxing at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach. Aldeguer said the undefeated Bautista who has a record of 20-0 with 15 knockouts is "fully recovered and is already in heavy training" in preparation for the fight against Andrade. Bautista had his first sparring session Tuesday.
Bautista will leave for Los Angeles along with outstanding Filipino trainer Edito "Ala" Villamor on October 25 to continue training at the Wild Card Gym. Should the US embassy release the visas of Z "The Dream" Gorres and AJ Banal by then, the two promising fighters will leave with Bautista.
Andrade is a veteran with an impressive record of 52-9 with 43 KO’s. In his last outing on August 25 he hammered Sixto Vera Espinola (20-8-1, 9 KO’s) decking him twice in the second round and twice in the third before Espinola quit at the start of the fourth. Bautista last fought on May 20 when he scored a third round knockout over Roberto Bonilla at the Staples Center in LA. Bonilla is the same fighter who was knocked out in the fourth round by Oscar Larios last October 6.
