SRISAKET SOR RUNGVISAI RETAINS WBC ASIAN BOXING COUNCIL TITLE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 02 Jul 2012
Thailand?s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai has retained his WBC Asia Boxing Council super flyweight title with a 2nd round TKO over Filipino Lionel Mark Duran in Minburi, Thailand.
With the win the 25 year old Srisaket improved to 14-1 with 13 knockouts. His only loss was to Japan?s undefeated Kenji Oba who had a record of 16-0-2 with 12 knockouts on February 7, 2010.
Srisaket won the title with a 5th round knockout of Indonesia?s Erik Diaz Siregar on June 14, 2011. He retained the title with a somewhat controversial 4th round technical decision over Filipino Dondon Jimenea who was badly cut due to an accidental head-butt and couldn?t continue.
The referee went to the scorecards of the judges and awarded the fight to Srisaket.
With the title loss the 20 year old Duran dropped to 9-5-1 with 3 knockouts. He was coming off a ten round unanimous decision loss to Benazir Alolod last May 26.
Another Filipino with a terrible record of 13-34 with 3 knockouts, Michael Rodriguez, lost a six round unanimous decision to former world super flyweight champion Suriyan Sor Rungvisai (21-5-1 with 7 KO?s) who lost his WBC belt by a twelve round unanimous decision to Japan?s Yota Sato last March 27.
