Weights from Aguascalientes, M?xico; Mijares 123, Osejo 122

PhilBoxing.com

Popular Mexican Cristian Mijares (R) scaled-in 123 lbs (55,79 Kgs) while his opponent, unheralded Nicaraguan Eusebio "Cascabel" Osejo, weighed-in 122 lbs (55,33 kgs) ahead of their main event 10-round non-title clash tomorrow at El Palenque de la Feria in Aguascalientes, M?xico.

Mijares (45-6-2 21KO's), who briefly visited the Philippines in October of 2009, is a former 2-time 115 lbs king, now campaigning in the super bantamweight division with the goal in his head of securing a title shot against any the current four 122 lbs champions. For that tough task, Mijares already have talent and experience. What he might need is a great best physical and mental preparation.

"I had a great training camp. I come to this battle well prepared with my mind focused in wining because from the result of this fight depends the possibility for me to challenge any the super bantamweight champs, or even climb to the featherweights to challenge my fellow Mexican Orlando Salido (featherweight world champion). But first things first, the most important fight right now is my rumble of tomorrow against Osejo, a contest which I must win at all cost," commented Mijares after stepping down from the scale, appearing focused and in apparent very good physical shape.

In fact, Cristian Mijares has been performing impressively well in this second stage in his boxing career, capturing the IBF super flyweight world title last year, so his quest for another world title can be taken seriously.

The resurgence of Mijares is similar to the one of WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez. Both Mijares and Gonzalez have proven to be top fighters with discipline and skills who at 30 year-old still have youth and resources to wage some more thrilling battles.

In the process of finding another title shot, the Durango native Mijares has won six of his last nine combats by way of KO and tomorrow could be another KO in the list. Part of Cristian's success could be in his new physical conditioning, said the popular southpaw himself.

"For eight months I've added exercises to my heavy training routines. Those new exercises I never did before. My coaches have made me stronger and more explosive. About my motivation, I feel that the sky is the limit and I'm so willing to get into the ring to win and impress fans," concluded the #11 world ranked Cristian Mijares, still one very popular tactician in Mexican boxing.

The four super bantamweight world champions, whom Mijares would wish to face are Rigondeaux (WBA), Mares (WBC) Mathebula (IBF) or Donaire. Would Cristian Mijares have any chance against any of these world champs?

In ending this writing, lets remember the greatest super bantamweight fighter in boxing history: the spectacular KO artist Wilfredo Gomez (44-3-1, 42KO's) of Puerto Rico.

Wilfredo G?mez was an amazing talented super bantamweight who thrilled audiences around the world with his unmatched boxing skills and devastating unforgiving punching power. I remember Wilfredo G?mez so well in his fight with Carlos Z?rate. Some fans used to call him "El B?falo." Others called him "Bazooka". Wilfredo G?mez fought from 1974-1989 and still I haven't seen any super bantamweight like him.
