Shane Mosley Sr. Blasts Oscar De La Hoya of Blocking Son’s Title Shot, Calls for Trilogy Fight on Drew & Pris Uncensored podcast

PhilBoxing.com

Las Vegas, NV – Hall of Fame boxer "Sugar" Shane Mosley Sr. reignited a decades-long rivalry with Oscar De La Hoya during a bold appearance on the Drew & Pris Uncensored podcast, stated De La Hoya may have intentionally blocked his son, Shane Mosley Jr., from getting a title opportunity.

When questioned by host Andrew Bocanegra, Mosley Sr. didn't hold back, stating the Golden Boy founder matched his son in two fights at a higher weight division believing he would lose. According to Mosley, the grudge runs deep. Mosley also took issue with recent remarks made by De La Hoya on his social media series, “Clapback Thursday,” where Oscar took shots at Mosley and other retired fighters.

The tension between Mosley and De La Hoya isn’t new—it’s one of the most iconic rivalries in modern boxing. In June 2000, Shane Mosley defeated Oscar De La Hoya in a close, but unanimous decision to win the WBC welterweight title, handing De La Hoya his second professional loss. The two met again in September 2003, with Mosley again emerging victorious via a controversial unanimous decision, this time capturing De La Hoya’s WBC and WBA light middleweight belts.

Their two meetings remain among the most debated and talked-about fights of the era, and a potential third bout—though years in the making—could generate enormous fan interest, especially with the rise of legend vs. legend events in the current fight landscape.

Shane Mosley Jr., who has built his own career in the middleweight division, has steadily climbed the ranks, earning respect for his technical skills, grit, and consistency. However, his father believes politics—and old grudges—are standing in the way of his shot at a world title.

“Oscar’s too old and out of shape now,” he continued. “But if he really wanted to settle it, he could call Turki Alalshikh and make the fight happen, but he’s scared.”

As of now, Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions have not responded to Mosley’s claims or the challenge for a trilogy fight. With the boxing world increasingly embracing legacy bouts, the possibility of Mosley-De La Hoya III—two legends squaring off in the twilight of their careers—could be a major event. Whether or not the fight happens, one thing is clear: the bad blood between Shane Mosley Sr. and Oscar De La Hoya is far from settled.
