'Thrilla in Minglanilla' set to unfold PhilBoxing.com Thu, 03 Aug 2006 Philippine No. 1 miniflyweight contender Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes returns to the ring against veteran Roberto Rubillar this August 12, 2006 in Minglanilla, Cebu. Slated as ?THRILLA IN MINGLANILLA?, this SGG Sports Promotions-led mega-boxing event in cooperation with MIBA ? Association of Barangay Captains and the Municipal Government of Minglanilla will be held at the spacious Minglanilla Sports Complex. Nietes, after a long respite from the boxing scene, will trade mitts with Angeles City?s Roberto Rubillar who had once fought and lost for the WBC Youth Light Flyweight Championship in Bangkok, Thailand against Yodsaengsek Por Choomchok last February 25, 2005. On the other hand, the Bacolod snake charmer will be climbing the ring since his last decision win against Noel Veronque last January 15, 2006. Sporting a 17-1-3 win-loss-draw record with 10 of his wins by kayo, Nietes hopes to add another winning notch in his boxing career. Main supporting bouts will include ALA Boy Rollen del Castillo against Nelson Guidolan of the Willy Neri Stable of Davao City and RP No. 4 Light Flyweight Julius Alcos against another Cagayan de Oro native, Bert Gawat. It must be noted that Alcos is an upcoming fighter worth watching as he has beaten the likes of Wyndel Janiola and Noel Tu?acao. A 20-year old native of Davao City, Alcos is also an IBF world rated contender. Meantime, OPBF No. 8 miniflyweight contender, young Rollen del Castillo will climb the ring fresh from a unanimous decision win against Alex Aroy last February 3, 2006 in Manila. Other fights will also include SGG Stable?s Edmund Velayo and Reman Salim against Barnold Seniego and Redgie Binueza, respectively. Former amateur standout from Talisay City, Rashid Bacus and Rogen Flores will fight against their counterparts from Davao City. Young and promising prospects will open this much-awaited boxing event headed by Wilson Haya, Marjo Borres and Gil Melliguen in 4-round bouts. |
