PINOY PRIDE XIV MANILA: GREAT CARD. GREAT CHALLENGE FOR ALA

PhilBoxing.com

Pinoy Pride XIV which will be featuring the WBO Light Flyweight Championship defense of Donnie Nietes against Felipe Salguero, Milan Melindo versus former 108 lbs world champ Jesus Geles and Genesis Servania against Genaro Garcia, is surely an event worth watching. The world class match ups will be worth the boxing fans' money and will stage another epic war between Pinoy Warriors against Latino Fighters.

The slick and technical Nietes who has reigned for years as a minimumweight champ will be making the first defense of his second division belt against a tough highly ranked Mexican contender in Felipe Salguero. As we all know, Nietes performance versus Hirales was not his best having gassed out in the later rounds. This fight will show us boxing fans if Nietes still got the fire or he is past his prime. Nietes has been outspoken in wanting to fight WBA counterpart Champ Roman Gonzales who recently knocked out Ramon Garcia Hirales in a brutal fashion. Thus, Nietes should look good in order to make him a formidable foe for the Nicaraguan undefeated champion.

Milan Melindo is also in for a busy night as he faces Colombian former 108 lbs world champion Jesus Geles who also shared the ring with Hirales in two instances winning the first one and losing the rematch. The undefeated Melindo's technical savvy and punching power will be toughly tested against Geles. It will be a yard stick that will measure Milan's readiness for a world title fight. If he gets past Geles in a convincing fashion, then bring in the title fight!

Finally, ALA has caught the real Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia and will bring him in not to fight Boom Boom Bautista but to test if undefeated Genesis Servania is the real deal or just another hyped up baby. Servania has been on a 17 fight winning streak against mixed quality of opponents. Garcia will definitely be his toughest customer.

At last, ALA Promotions has decided to stage Pinoy Pride in Manila and not just in an ordinary venue but rather at the entertainment top spot of the Philippine Capital, Resorts World Hotel and Casino Manila. Contrary to Cebu which is the boxing capital of the country and a place teeming with boxing fanatics, Manila has been quite hostile to premium boxing events where tickets are not for free. Hence, ALA who has been selling tickets like hot cakes in Cebu is in for a difficult challenge: Sell Pinoy Pride in Manila.

However, ALA Promotions has the best Marketing machinery in town. Together with its event partner ABS-CBN Sports, the boxing tandem has started the ad campaign with TV appearances of the Pinoy Pride protagonists. Billboards will be erected in the busiest highways and the TV's will be bombarded by event teasers and commercials. With the proper marketing arsenals, nothing will stop Pinoy Pride from invading Manila. Watch out for Pinoy Pride XIV, June 2 at 6PM, Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila. Lastly, I personally hope Jojo "Flash" Intor will make his Manila and TV debut. Cheers!
