 Ricky Hatton.
Former two division world champion Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton has been impressed by the performance of Filipino flyweight Fernando Lumacad who won the newly formed United Boxing Organization vacant world bantamweight title with a unanimous twelve round decision over Glenn Suminguit at the Kowloon Exhibition center in Hong Kong.
Hatton told well known Australian promoter and popular KO TV Boxing show host Peter Maniatis who manages Lumacad that he was "very impressed with the performance of Fernando Lumacad who boxed very well."
All three judges scored the fight for the stylish Lumacad. Howard Reed scored a near shutout at 119-109, judge Bob Maine had Lumacad the winner 117-111 while Filipino judge dge Ferdie Estrella scored it 117-112.
The Hong Kong promotion was done differently with a sell out crowd of 53 tables of ten people with the cheapest ticket $200 US Dollars and up to $300.
Both fighters started cautiously with Lumacad landing the crisper punches to take control of the fight.
An accidental clash of heads resulted in Suminguit suffering a cut above his eye. But Games and Amusements Board boxing division chief Dr Naaser Cruz took look but ruled it was alright for Suminguirt to continue.
Maniatis said the southpaw Suminguit "showed great heart to last the 12 rounds with Lumacad who was the better boxer on the night and finished the fight too strong for Suminguit."
Maniatis said Hatton was also interviewed by the Australian KO Boxing show had gained a lot of weight and looked like a light heavyweight!!!
Fernando Lumacad could be invited back again to defend his UBO World Title in Hong Kong while there were reports Lumacad could fight for a super flyweight PABA title in July in General Santos at the Manny Pacquiao gym.
With the win the 26 year old Lumacad improved to 26-3-3 with 11 knockouts while the 23 year old southoaw Suminguit dropped to 12-2 with 7 knoxkouts.
