TWO PINOY BOXERS LOSE IN THAILAND
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 23 Apr 2012
In what appeared to be a mismatch, Filipino Mike ?Tyson? Tumbaga lost by a 2nd round TKO to vastly superior puncher Patomsuk Patompothing in an IBF Pan Pacific light welterweight title fight in Chiangmai, Thailand.
Also on the undercard Amor Tinio was beaten in an eight round bout by IBF world ranked No. 8 Fahsai ?Mountain Boy? Sakkreerin.
Tumbaga tried to trade punches with Patomsuk in the opening round but was dropped by a powerful right to the head by the Thai champion in the second round forcing the referee to call a halt at 2:18 of the round as Tumabaga was in no position to continue.
According to boxrec.com, Tumbaga had lost five of his last six fights once again raising the question as to how the Games and Amusements Board sanctioned the mismatch.
With the win the 28 year old Patomsuk improved to 17-1-1 with 11 knockouts while the 26 year old Tumbaga dropped to 12-16-2 with no knockouts to his name.
Patomsuk won the vacant IBF Pan Pacific 140 pound title with a 4th round TKO of Michael Speed Sigarlaki of Indonesia after dropping the Indon once in round three and three times in round four on January 10 this year..
Sakkreerin hammered Tinio with solid combinations in almost every round and according to IBF fight supervisor Ray Wheatley ?the game Filipino warrior was on unsteady feet but survived to hear the final bell.?
Sakkreerin improved to 36-3 with 20 knockouts while Tino dropped to 14-10-2 with 4 knockouts.
The 30 year old Sakkreerin was coming off a disputed 12 round split decision loss to Mexico?s Martin Honorio in an IBF title eliminator after suffering a broken hand in the fight and following his win would like to get a rematch against Honorio.
Tino was coming off a 5th round TKO win over Vic Racuma who had a dismal record of 5-24-1 with 1 knockout.
