JOEL DIAZ JR. RETURNS TO THE RING APRIL 28 IN WEST VIRGINIA
PhilBoxing.com Thu, 05 Apr 2012
April 4, 2012 - Palmdale California's undefeated junior lightweight sensation, Joel Diaz Jr. (8-0, 7 KOs), returns to the ring against Russian native Georgi Kevlishvili (10-3, 3 KOs) on April 28, at the Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort in Chester, West Virginia. The eagerly awaited matchup is set for eight rounds and will be promoted Roy Jones Jr.'s Square Ring Inc. in association with TNT Sports Promotions.
On January 20th, Diaz, promoted by Boxing360, gained national recognition with his stunning TKO victory over previously undefeated Guy Robb (7-1, 3 KOs) on SHOWTIME'S ShoBox "The New Generation" series. In the fight, Diaz showed great reliance as he dropped Robb twice, after coming off the canvas himself in the second. Joel followed that impressive triumph with a first-round knockout over Ryan Pederson on February 17th, extending his KO streak to six.
"I'm happy that my career is taking off," said Diaz. "This will be my third fight in 2012 and I want to thank my promoter Mario Yagobi and Boxing360 for keeping me busy. I work hard every day in the gym with the dream of becoming a world champion. Each fight gets tougher as I move up the rankings, but I believe in myself and my ability to come out on top. Right now my focus is on Kevlishvili. I need to win this fight and continue marching toward that world title."
Said Boxing360 Promoter Mario Yagobi, "Joel's dedication and hard work is evident and I know he's hungry to become a world champion. Right now he's gaining invaluable experience with each fight. He's one of boxing's bright young stars and I'm confident he'll take each fight seriously. Sky is the limit for Joel."
