JOYI BEING LINED UP FOR UNIFICATION BOUT IF HE BEATS TAKAYAMA ON FRIDAY

PhilBoxing.com

Joyi.
If IBF minimum weight champion Nkosinathi Joyi beats Japanese challenger and former interim WBA champion Katsunari Takayama in a title fight in East London, South Africa on Friday night he could be lined up for unification bouts against the champions from the other world boxing organizations.

Well known South African promoter Branco Milenkovic said that the undefeated Joyi (21-0, 15 KO?s) who is rated as the champion in his division by Ring Magazine could be matched against other world champions should be overcome the challenge posed by Takayama who is handled by the famed ALA Promotions of the Philippines.

When the southpaw Joyi and Takayama met last year the fight was declared a non contest after the Japanese challenger suffered a cut at 1:59 of the 3rd round and could not continue .

Milenkovic believes the talented Joyi is ready to move forward and take another major step in his career.

Milenkovic who has been an outstanding promoter and won international recognition believes its time for South Africa to have a universally acknowledged champion and feels that Joyi has the best chance of achieving that goal.

Milenkovic was quoted by Super Sport in South Africa as saying ? I believe Joyi can go all the way. There are some formidable fighters who are recognized as champions by the WBA, WBC and other organizations but Joyi?s record is as good as anyone?s.?

Joyi won the vacant IBO minimum weight title with a 2nd round knockout of Filipino Armando de la Cruz on November 4, 2006 and then won the IBF title with a 12 round unanimous decision over Mexico?s Raul ?Rayito? Garcia on Marcg 26, 2010.

Garcia had earlier won the title from Filipino champion Florante ?Little Pacquiao? Condes by a split decision in Garcia?s hometown of La Paz, Mexico.

Takayama won the WBA interim title with a win over Carlos Melo on November 7, 2006 but dropped a unanimous twelve round decision to Roman Gonzalez in a title fight on July 16, 2009.

The Japanese came back to score a 6th rounjd TKO in a title eliminator against South African Tshepo Lefele on September 1, 2010 before the no contest against Joyi.
