GEALE RETAINS IBF MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE AGAINST LOUD-MOUTHED ADAMA

PhilBoxing.com

IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale of Australia kept his vow to make challenger Osumanu Adama, the US-based Ghana fighter pay for his disrespect and loud-mouth, by scoring a comfortable twelve round unanimous decxision at the Derwent Entertainment Center in Hobart, Tasmania Wednesday night.

Judge Ian Scott of New Zealand had Geale the winner 118-110 while Davie Parris of Britain scored the fight for Geale 117-111. Only Poland?s Pawel Kardyni saw it close with a 115-113 margin for Geale.

The soft-spoken Geale had been on the receiving end of plenty of bluster from the American-based Ghanaian team in the lead-up to the bout, part of a massive double-header with fellow Australian and IBF featherweight world champion Billy Dib's second title defense against Mexico?s Eduardo Escobedo whom he beat handily as Escobedo retired in the 6th round.

The challenger Adama has called the 31-year-old Geale a ''ballet dancer'' and at the weigh-in claimed he had never watched footage of Geale's fights because he didn't need to.

The Mercury News reported that Adama?s outspoken trainer, Joseph Awionga made things worse by prematurely offering the champion a rematch.

Geale said ''It is disrespectful but I've got my time to show that and the time to show that is in the ring. I'll get it back when it counts.'

With the win Geale improved to 27-1 with 15 knockouts while No. 10 ranked Adama dropped to 20-3 with 15 knockouts.

Geale won the IBF middleweight title with a 12 round split decision over Sebastian Sylvester last May 7, 2011 while Adama earned the title shot with a 9th round TKO over Russia?s Roman Karmazin in a title eliminator on October 7, 2011.

Dib made the second successful defense of his IBF featherweight title against Escobedo to improve to 34-1 with 21 knockouts after winning the vacant title with a unanimous 12 round decision over Jorge Lacierva on July 29, 2011. Escobedo retired in his corner.

Dib made his first successful title defense with a stunning 1st round knockout of undefeated Italian Alberto Servidei (31-0, 7 KO?s) last November 19, 2011.

Both Dib and Escobedo also engaged in some give-and take but Dib said after the weigh-in ''The minute that he saw the size difference between us, he quickly turned into a mouse.''
