MALCOLM TUNACAO TKO'S YUKI TAKEMOTO IN 4

PhilBoxing.com

Kobe, Hyogo Japan - Japan based Malcolm "Eagle Eye" Tunacao of Mandaue City scored a rousing 4th round TKO of Japanese opponent Yuki Takemoto of Osaka, Japan. Tunacao dropped Takemoto in the initial round of their match held at the Central Gym in Kobe. He again hurt the Japanese in the 3rd round and in the round 4, a straight from Tunacao stunned Takemoto. The former flyweight champion of the world then unleashed a barrage of punches on his foe forcing the referee to call a halt in the fight.

The victorious Tunacao was very happy when I chatted with him after the fight. "Masaya tayo , kasi nag promise din (ang) manager ko this year, na bigyan ako chance for a world title." (I'm happy, because my manager promised me a crack at a world title this year.) said the elated boxer. Tunacao's manager is Japanese, Masato Yamashita. Yamashita also manages the career of former WBC bantamweight and featherweight titlist , Hozumi Hasegawa.

Tunacao said that his opponent was a strong fighter and that he used the first two rounds of their fight to figure out his style. " 1 -2 rounds, laro lang ako. Kasi masyado malakas ang kalaban." (I was feeling him out in rounds 1 -2, because he is a strong opponent.) he said. " Nung 4th round na, natamaan din ng straight, na- groggy tapos finollow-up-an ko na at ini - stop na ng referee. (I hit him with a straight in the 4th round, I noticed he got groggy so I followed it up and the referee stop it afterwards.) narrated the jubilant fighter.

Tunacao expressed his thanks to God, his manager, his family, his fans and his "kababayans" who has been very supportive of him. He also did not forget to mention his girlfriend who came to Japan for the fight. One that served as his inspiration as he did battle in the ring last night. Tunacao plans to take a short vacation and intends to go back to the gym to train. " Bakasyon muna, tapos after one week balik ensayo." (Vacation for now, and then after a week I'll go back to training.) said the Mandaue city native.

And as we ended the interview, Tunacao also congratulated recently crowned WBC flyweight champion, Sonny Boy Jaro on his victory last week. Jaro pulled the upset of the year by beating Thai legend and longtime flyweight kingpin Pongsakkek Wonjongkam in Thailand. Tunacao lost to Wonjongkam in 2001 for the same title.
