ARUM?S ADVICE TO MANNY - IGNORE MAYWEATHER

PhilBoxing.com

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has some advice for pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao ? don?t react to anything that Floyd Mayweather Jr says regarding a fight with Pacquiao and how such a fight could be made.

Arum told the Manila Standard ?the best thing for Manny to do is just ignore him.?

He said the media called him for a comment on Mayweather?s statement that for the mega-buck fight to happen, Pacquiao would have to get rid of his promoter. Arum?s reaction was ?we have absolutely no response.?

Arum said ?He really doesn?t want to fight Manny? pointing to the ridiculous proposals regarding the revenue split, his offer of a guaranteed $40 million purse with Mayweather keeping all the pay per view income which Pacquiao said was embarrassing.

Pacquiao?s adviser Michael Koncz said Mayweather was losing his composure after Koncz revealed the details of Mayweather?s offer to Pacquiao and Team Pacquiao?s far better counter-offer which Mayweather never responded to.

Arum for his part noted that while the Pacquiao-Bradley media conferences centered solely on their June 9 fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and the fighters themselves, Mayweather's conferences talk about Pacquiao.

He said ?You saw how we handled Manny and Bradley, it was all about the fight.?

In contrast he said the Mayweather-Cotto tour ?is a joke? noting that he (Mayweather) is supposed to be promoting his fight with Cotto? not talking about Pacquiao.

At the New York press conference Mayweather sought to downplay Pacquiao?s demolition of Cotto whom the ?Fighter of the Decade? pulverized before the referee called a halt in the 12th round. The fight was at 150 pounds and Pacquiao won the WBO super welterweight title.

In Mayweather?s mind ?Cotto is still undefeated? claiming that when he lost to Pacquiao the Puerto Rican ?lost to someone who cheated and wasn?t at his best against Pacquiao? even as he stressed that ?at the end of the day Floyd Mayweather is not a cheater."

He added, If I was Timothy Bradley, I?d have Pacquiao take random blood and urine testing? conveniently forgetting that Pacquiao had agreed to fight Mayweather and give into his demand of blood tests right up to the day before the fight.

Mayweather also conveniently forgot that he had agreed to fight Juan Manuel Marquez at 145 pounds but weighed 147 at the official weigh-in and refused to reduce to the contracted weight limit and instead paid Marquez a fine of $600,000. Mayweather also refused to undergo the usual weigh-in on fight night and reportedly entered the ring some 20 pounds heavier than Marquez who lasted twelve rounds.

The Ring reported that when asked if he thinks the Pacquiao fight will ever happen, Mayweather snapped ?Absolutely not.?
