TWO BIG FIGHTS ON ?BIG TIME BAKBAKAN? ON SUNDAY

PhilBoxing.com

Fight fans get another treat on Sunday when the high-rating, weekly boxing show ?BIG TIME BAKBAKAN? telecast on AKTV IBC 13 presents two exciting fight cards, one at 12:00 noon and the other at 9:00 p.m.

Argentina?s hard-hitting southpaw Marcos Maidana clashes with Devon Alexander in the 12:00 edition from the Scottrade Center in Alexander?s hometown of St. Louis, Missouri while Russia?s undefeated WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin battles WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck at 9:00 p.m.

Interestingly both Maidana and Alexander had Filipino southpaw Mark Jason Melligen as their main sparring partner when they fought for the world title in different organizations and praised Melligen for giving them some great sparring.

?Alexander the Great? as Devon is called is the former light welterweight champion and has an outstanding amateur career.

The 24 year old is regarded as a classic boxer with great boxing skills which he used to the hilt in winning the IBF title in decisive fashion over Juan Urango to add to his WBC belt.

However, he lost to the undefeated Timothy Bradley who fights pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas on June 9.

Maidana isn?t anywhere near as accomplished as Alexander but the Argentine southpaw can punch which he proved when he stopped ?Vicious? Victor Ortiz and gave Amir Khan a rough time before dropping a twelve round decision.

Maidana is basically a slugger who is aggressive and always in top condition which makes for an exciting showdown between a boxer and a slugger.

The other featured title fight at 9:00 p.m. is bound to be a brawl between two big men as heavyweight champion Povetkin who is undefeated with a record of 23-0 with 16 knockouts takes on the smaller cruiserweight king Huck.

Povetkin won the title from Ruslan Chagaev of Uzbekistan on August 27, 2011 and is hoping that an impressive win over Huck will help him earn a crack at one of the Klitschko brothers, Wladimir or Vitali.

But Huck who won the WBO cruiserweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Victor Ramirez on August 29, 2009 is also looking in the same direction and is likely to go flat out in an effort to earn another big payday against either of the Klitschkos.
