Reigning International Boxing Federation lightweight Pan-Pacific titleholder Al Sabaupan expressed readiness to challenge Mexican power puncher Marvin Quintero for the right to challenge reigning IBF king Miguel Vazquez this year. "A win will bring me closer to the world title. Becoming a world champion is my dream and I will not waste this opportunity to join the select list of Filipino world champions," said Sabaupan during a break of training at the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym in Agoncillo, Batangas. A look-alike of ring icon Manny Pacquiao, Sabaupan is getting attention from the boxing world with his ring exploits.The native of Sipocot, Camarines, Norte and farmer's son sports an unblemished mark of 18 wins and one draw with 13 knock outs. The International Boxing Federation thru Championship Committee chairman Lindsey Tucker ordered that the fight be held next month. He informed Sabaupan? manager and Saved by the Bell Promotions president Elmer Anuran that the fight is a title eliminator. Quintero is 25 years old and has a record of 24-3 with 20 knockouts. Quintero is ranked fifth while Sabaupan is no.4 in the IBF list. Both are southpaw. Sabaupan likes to fight inside. He promised to put a good show. "I want to win big," said Sabaupan,who is training under the watchful eyes of veteran Benny de la Pena. He regularly spars with stable mate Jun Doliges and Roberto Gonzales, two future international stars. De la Pena said Sabaupan is training very hard for the big fight.
