GRANT OF LICENSE TO MAYWEATHER NOT A CERTAINTY By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 28 Jan 2012  Although Floyd Mayweather Jr has applied for a license from the Nevada State Athletic Commission there is no certainty that the Commission will grant him one for his announced May 5 fight. The Commission is headed by its current chairman Raymond "Skip" Avansino Jr, Francisco V. Aguilar, Bill D. Brady, Pat Lundvall and TJ Day. For one thing Mayweather hasn?t signed up an opponent as yet and the possibility of a fight against pound for pound king and ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao looks most unlikely after Mayweather made what Team Pacquiao brands as ridiculous offers. After originally agreeing to a 50-50 split Mayweather, in a recent telephone conversation with Pacquiao and his adviser Michael Koncz countered with a 70-30 demand or at the very least 60-40 in Mayweather?s favor. The latest offer is a guaranteed $40 million purse for Pacquiao with Mayweather raking in the entire pay-per-view income. NSAC executive director Keith Kizer told the Manila Standard that Mayweather's application for a license is on the agenda for the Commission meeting on February 1 at 9:00 a.m. The issue of Mayweather's conviction on domestic violence charges where he hasn't even begun to serve his 90 day prison term could impact on his application for a license. Judge Melissa Saragosa who pushed back the start of Mayweather's time from January 6 to June 1 because of an announced May 5 fight was criticized for her decision. Some lawyers have argued that the NSAC may find it difficult to grant Mayweather a license since he has not yet served his sentence and that if he had served time and paid society for his misdemeanor then the grant of a license would be much easier. It was also pointed out that even though Antonio Margarito hadn't been charged in court or convicted of a crime on allegations that he tried to use loaded hand-wraps in a fight against Shane Mosley, the NSAC refused him a license to fight Pacquiao in Las Vegas.
