KONCZ INSISTS PACQUIAO HASN?T CHOSEN AN OPPONENT AS YET

PhilBoxing.com

Despite indications that Ring Magazine pound for pound king Pacquiao had chosen WBO light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto for his next fight on June 9, Pacquiao?s adviser Michael Koncz insists ?we have not made a decision.?

Kocz said ?we are not rushing.?

At the same time Koncz indicated that while Pacquiao?s wife Jinkee was quoted as saying that Manny ?liked the idea of Cotto, she didn?t say we we're doing Cotto. That?s the difference.?

The possibility of a Pacquiao-Cotto rematch gained some credence when Arum flatly rejected talk of a fight between Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr telling the Manila Standard ?they are not going to get him.?

With Juan Manuel Marquez set to fight again in March and Pacquiao indicating he is not interested in a fouth fight with the Mexican after three controversial encounters and with the WBA ordering Lamont Peterson to defend his WBA light welterweight title in a rematch with former champion Amir Khan, only Cotto and light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley remain from among the four names Arum gave Pacquiao.

Shortly after his return to the US Arum told the Manila Standard ?Everything is proceeding , everything is going well. There have been developments and we?ll have to see where everything is going. There?s no real hurry.?

He said Pacquiao ?is up to date and we are on the same page.?

Arum indicated that Floyd Mayweather Jr and everybody else is ?still in the mix.?

Meantime, the WBC reported that Cotto visited the headquarters of the organization along with his manager and his agent and spoke to WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman and his son and executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman but there was no indication that they discussed the Puerto Rican champion?s next fight.

In their first clash Pacquiao battered Cotto into submission in the 12th round at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on November 14, 2009 after dropping him in the third and fourth rounds using his tremendous hand-speed and punching power before referee Kenny Bayless jumped in to stop the contest 55 seconds into the final round.
