WBC ORDERS CUELLO-LOPEZ TITLE ELIMINATOR
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 11 Jan 2012
 Denver Cuello.
The World Boxing Council has ordered a title eliminator between what the WBC itself described as ?the spectacular Philippine boxer Denver Cuello? against Ganigan Lopez with the winner to face minimum weight or straw-weight champion Kazuto Ioka of Japan.
Cuello is ranked No. 2 by the WBC while Lopez is ranked No. 1.
WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman said both Cuello who is managed by former boxer Aljoe Jaro and is currently promoted by Canelo Promotions, the outfit headed by WBC light middleweight champion Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez as well as the handlers of Lopez have been informed that ?the negotiations for a bout have to start and in case there is no agreement? they will go to a purse bid on February 3 at the WBC headquarters in Mexico City.
The WBC said that Cuello (29-4-6, 19 KO?s) trusted CANELO PROMOTIONS and ?everything points to the fact that soon he?ll conquer his dream of becoming WBC Champion.?
It said that on the other hand Ganigan Lopez (20-4, 14 KO?s) will have his first chance of fighting for a world title after he conquered the silver title that currently belongs to Cuello.
Cuello won the vacant Silver title with a spectacular first round knockout of Carlos Perez on October 15, 2011 with a vicious body shot that saw Perez grimacing on the canvas long after he was dropped by the devastating puncher from the Philippines at 1:37 of the round by referee Telis Assimenios.
Perez dropped to No. 14 in the latest rankings of the WBC.
The undefeated Ioka retained his title with a sensational 1st round knockout over previously nunbeaten Thai Yodgoen Tor Chalermchai in Osaka
Ioka connected with a solid combination and then dropped the Thai challenger with a vicious left hook. Yodgoen crashed to the canvas with a thud and referee Bruce McTavis immediately stopped the contest at 1:38 of the opening round even as the Thai was carried out on a stretcher.
Ioka has a record of 9-0 with 6 knockouts and is tremendously popular in his hometown of Osaka.
